Mural by Joni Majer
The first cooperation project was started with Saarbrücker gemeinnützige Siedlungsgesellschaft, the municipal housing company of the state capital Saarbrücken: In districts outside the city center, such as Dudweiler, house facades are being designed by artists.
The first facade, a so-called mural, is created by illustrator Joni Majer, who recently also had an exhibition at the Stadtgalerie Saarbrücken. The wall is located in Dudweiler, at Fischbachstraße 5a. People without a permanent home could find accommodation here from 2016. Questions about living, home and belonging as well as questions about the social relevance of art and culture come into effect here.
Through its presence outside the city center, the City Gallery offers access to art to people who do not normally go to museums and art institutions. At the same time, the project encourages the visitors of the City Gallery to go out and explore other parts of the city.
The Saarbrücker gemeinnützige Siedlungsgesellschaft (SGS) has an interest in sustainable development of housing and neighborhood. With Heinz-Peter Klein (former Managing Director of SGS), various projects have already been created with different partners, such as the "Bergsteiger" on a facade of the Folsterhöhe together with Label m.
