Christina Kubisch
8.2.2019 - 12.5.2019
With the light and sound spaces by the renowned artist and former professor of the HBKsaar, Christina Kubisch (*born 1948 in Bremen), the Stadtgalerie presents a pioneer of sound art who already received international acclaim in the 1970s with her electronic sound experiments. In her so-called induction works, she uses electric cable fields into which sounds are fed and which can also be experienced as installations in the exhibition space. These induction works, in which the participation of the audience plays a major role, are presented in the Saarbrücken show along with recent cable installations, sound sculptures and light spaces. Kubisch thus opens up a world exposed to the ever-increasing digitalization and transformation of our forms of communication and life, making audible what otherwise remains hidden from human perception.
The exhibition sets a special accent with the Electrical Walks – city walks in which the artist offers a possibility to experience the magnetic soundscapes of the electromagnetic current fields above and under ground, which permanently surround us in urban space, but can only be experienced via particularly sensitive electromagnetic headphones.
