Every two years, the art prize provides an insight into the current art scene in the QuattroPole cities of Luxembourg, Metz, Saarbrücken and Trier, and thus into the emerging artistic talent of the Greater Region.

Shannon Luka, M.A., has been appointed curator by the state capital, Saarbrücken. She has nominated the following artists on behalf of the city of Saarbrücken:

Since 1991, the Robert Schuman Art Prize has provided a platform for contemporary art in the Greater Region. It carries a prize fund of 10,000 euros. An eight-member expert jury, comprising two representatives each from the arts and culture sectors of the respective cities, selects the winner on the evening of the opening. The jury members are appointed by the cities and curators and, by virtue of their work and experience, are regarded as experts and key contributors to the art scene.

The aim of the exhibition is to stimulate an in-depth dialogue between the various representatives of contemporary art from the participating cities. With this cross-border approach, the art prize follows the ambitious goals of its namesake, the politician Robert Schuman (1886–1963), who is regarded as one of the founding fathers of Europe. As French Foreign Minister and the first President of the European Parliament, he was a staunch advocate of promoting intercultural dialogue at an international level. The Robert Schuman Art Prize therefore aims to document and promote artistic creation in the Greater Region, thereby contributing to the integration of Europe.

Over the past 20 years, the art prize has become a prime example of the success of cross-border cultural cooperation and has emerged as the most important event in the contemporary art scene in the Greater Region.

The state capital, Saarbrücken, organised the 2021 award. The 15th edition of the art prize was organised under the leadership of Katharina Ritter, MA, Director of the Stadtgalerie Saarbrücken and curator for the City of Saarbrücken in 2021, and Kamila Kolesniczenko, project coordinator. The exhibitions took place at the Stadtgalerie Saarbrücken and the Saarländisches Künstlerhaus. The winner of the 15th edition was Akosua Viktoria Adu-Sanyah.
