Where the River resides

From 30.11. to 15.12.21, the work "Where the River resides" by the Bremen-based artist collective ZEFAK will be displayed in the showcase of the design office MM, M (Großherzog-Friedrich-Straße 58, 66121 Saarbrücken) as part of the exhibition series VOILÀ in cooperation with the Stadtgalerie Saarbrücken.

As a collective, Aria Farajnezhad, Elard Lukaczik and Zainab Haidary deal with their environment, the water in the river and the infinity task of water pumps in old mining tunnels.

Transformations, filter processes and directed movements are processed in an installation. Resource extraction and the accompanying displacement on different levels - of water and organic life, in history as well as in the future - are thematised. During the exhibition period, the work will be constantly expanded.

An important part of the process is the engagement with local actors from different fields. In the interdisciplinary discourse, conversations and cooperations will take place that will flow audiovisually into the work.

The project was initiated by the designer Martha Bayer (MM, M) and accompanied by the curators Katharina Ritter (M. A., Director Stadtgalerie Saarbrücken) and Leo Scheidt.

Since 2018, Aria Farajnezhad, Zainab Haidary and Elard Lukaczik have been working together as ZEFAK alongside their own artistic work.

With Future Archives, the collective collects future-oriented recordings, puts them in context with each other and uses them as a basis for further work. Here, multi-dimensional investigations emerge in dialogue with networks, laboratories and research centres (from fields such as the climate movement, art and nature conservation). The open way of working leads to multifaceted events alongside the archive.

Future Archives offers and tests a discursive platform to discuss the possibility of emancipating the present from dominant future scenarios. It is about working on a different future. This work is multi-layered and develops with an unpredictable dynamic.

MM, M

Since its founding in October 2015, the office partnership MM, M has been working for clients from various sectors, especially the cultural and artistic ones.

For Martha Bayer, Muriel Serf and Manuel Wesely, design must be tangible and an interesting experience. The design studio likes to use the metaphor of translation for this: during the design process, complex project content is broken down into simple components and re-arranged to be accessible in a new translation for the corresponding target group.

Since 2016, the design office has been organising the exhibition series da-da-da, a gallery concept for artists and designers, which reopens with the new format VOILÀ after a break due to Corona.

more about the Stadtgalerie

The Stadtgalerie Saarbrücken is a place of critical confidence: international artists meet here with the population, different scenes and disciplines. Strategies for a desirable future are developed together.

The urgencies of our time require the combination of different competences. The Stadtgalerie opens up thinking, shares change and participates in necessary discussions in the process. From the centre of the city, further artistic projects are implemented in the urban space. The Stadtgalerie also enables new forms of cooperation and multidisciplinary projects in the border region.
